Join Our Education Team
The Opportunity
Join a team that is redefining what is possible in public education. We are seeking passionate, mission-driven educators who believe that every child deserves a joyful, rigorous, and personalized learning experience. Together, we will build a school that honors the East End and unlocks the potential of every student.
Redefining the Role of a Teacher
We are seeking a dedicated and entrepreneurial group of educators to join us as Founding Learning Facilitators at East End Academy. This is not a traditional teaching position. This is a unique opportunity to help build a transformative school from the ground up, to work in a deeply collaborative environment, and to redefine what is possible for students.
Our Learning Facilitators are the heart of our school. They are designers, coaches, and partners who guide students on their unique learning journeys. If you are a passionate, innovative educator who is ready to help create a joyful, rigorous, and learner-centered community, we invite you to apply.
A Note on Our School Culture: Our In-School Name
While the professional title for this role is Learning Facilitator, we believe in creating a warm and accessible culture for our students. As part of our collaborative design, our founding team will choose a kid-friendly name that our young learners will use day-to-day. The goal is to reinforce the idea that the adults in our school are partners in the learning journey. Some of the ideas we are exploring include:
Designers: A name that directly and proudly connects to our Learning Blueprint mission. It elevates both the student and the adult to the role of designers and builders.
Coaches: A familiar and positive concept for kids that frames the relationship as a supportive partnership focused on growth and effort.
Guides: A simple, warm, and relational name that emphasizes the journey of learning and the role of the adult as a trusted companion who helps each child find their own unique path.
Your Role as a Learning Facilitator
Facilitate Personalized Learning: Guide a cohort of learners through their own personalized, competency-based pathways. Use a variety of data, including student portfolios and performance-based tasks, to support each student in setting goals, tracking their progress, and developing a deep sense of ownership over their education.
Collaborate in the Village Model: Work as a key member of a collaborative, cross-disciplinary teaching team (The Village) that shares responsibility for a cohort of students. Engage in daily and weekly data-driven meetings to co-plan, solve problems, and ensure every learner is known, supported, and challenged.
Design Inquiry-Based Experiences: Design and lead hands-on, interdisciplinary projects that take place in our dynamic learning studios, gardens, and workshops. Cultivate an environment of inquiry, imagination, and innovation that makes learning relevant and engaging.
Assess for Mastery and Growth: Utilize a balanced system of assessment, with a strong emphasis on authentic, performance-based tools like student portfolios, exhibitions of learning, and project-based rubrics to provide a holistic view of student growth.
Build a Joyful & Inclusive Community: Foster a safe, welcoming, and equitable classroom culture grounded in restorative practices. Build strong, trusting partnerships with students and their families through regular communication and student-led conferences.
Learning Facilitators cultivate a learning environment where learning is on-going, student-driven, and deeply rooted in real-world discovery.
Our Commitment to Supporting Every Learner
Our Village Model is the engine of our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). We have a clear, proactive plan to ensure every learner gets the support they need.
Tier 1: A Strong Foundation. Every learner receives high-quality, differentiated instruction in our personalized, project-based core program.
Tier 2: Targeted Support. Our Village teams meet weekly to analyze student data. If a learner is struggling, the team collaboratively provides targeted, small-group interventions. This is a team effort, not an individual facilitator's burden.
Tier 3: Intensive, Specialized Support. If a learner continues to struggle despite targeted interventions, our Director of Diverse Populations leads a more formal process to determine if specialized services are needed. This data-driven approach ensures we support students effectively while preventing the over-identification of special needs.
Our Assessment Philosophy
Balancing Authenticity and Accountability
We believe that to truly understand a learner's growth, we need a balanced and holistic approach to assessment. Our philosophy is built on two key ideas:
Authentic, Performance-Based Assessment: We believe the best way to see what a learner knows and can do is to look at their authentic work. We rely on tools like student learning portfolios, project-based rubrics, and facilitator observations to provide a rich, ongoing picture of each learner's growth as a thinker, creator, and problem-solver.
Accountability & Foundational Skills: We are deeply committed to ensuring every learner masters the foundational literacy and numeracy skills outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). We will use state-approved screening and benchmark assessments to monitor progress and ensure our learners are on track for long-term academic success. Our Village Model teams use this data in their weekly meetings to make informed, collaborative decisions.
